Planning a Trip to Europe: Your 10-Step Guide with Friends Travel, LLP 90048

Planning a Trip to Europe: Your 10-Step Guide
EUROPE@FriendsTravel.com 24/7/365

1. Decide on your destination with the help of FriendsTravel.com
Is a whirlwind five-city tour what you have in mind? Or perhaps you shudder at the thought of visiting another museum and long for a relaxing week picking lavender in the south of France. The thing about Europe is that with so many countries, cities and sights worth seeing, the choices can be overwhelming. Think about what your ideal vacation is and begin your research. Check out our Europe On and Off the Beaten Path for inspiration.

Want personal attention? That is what we are all about: EUROPE@FriendsTravel.com

2. Get your travel documents in order.
Is your passport valid? Do you need a visa in the country you are visiting? Our Passport Center includes everything you need to know about getting or renewing a passport, just ask, it is free.

Keep in mind that if you are traveling with a child, he or she needs a passport too. If you’re reading this in a panic because you don’t have a valid passport — calm down — a passport and visa expeditor can help you get yours fast. If the child is part of a divorce, ask for details!

3. Book your airfare with FriendsTravel.com
This is, perhaps, the most stressful part of planning a trip. You could lock in a reasonable fare early, but what if there’s a major sale? You wait and wait for the sales to start, and meanwhile the fares are creeping up. With the number of Americans traveling to Europe at its peak since 9/11, most experts agree that travelers aren’t likely to see airfares to the continent take a dip for summer travel. If you don’t have your heart set on traveling there this summer, consider going in the fall, when you’ll typically find better deals and pleasant weather. Ask us about our Europe Best Values — it’s updated daily with the latest sales.

4. Get creative with your flights, just simply tell us when and where you want to travel, we do the work for you.
Booking a multi-leg flight requires the help of a professional travel agent.  If you try to “DIY” do it yourself, it can turn into the most expensive mistake ever!

5. Keep in mind that Europe has discount airlines too, problem is, do you know which one is still in business and which one is right for your needs.
Europe, just like the U.S., has discount airlines.  Consider flying to a large hub city and connecting to a smaller city.

6. Book your accommodations. EUROPE@FriendsTravel.com
Whether it’s a five-star city hotel or a countryside villa, booking your accommodations well in advance, particularly during high season, is paramount. If you’re traveling with a group or with several family members, consider a city apartment rental instead of several hotel rooms. FriendsTravel.com specializes in apartment rentals in Barcelona, and is a good place to start your search for a rental on the Left Bank.

7. FriendsTravel.com will help you gigure out how you will get around.
For many, train travel is what automatically comes to mind when we think about traveling in Europe. Be sure to research your options long before you leave the United States — many of the passes we have become familiar with (Eurail is by far the most famous) need to be purchased in advance, EUROPE@FriendsTravel.com has all the info. If you are planning on doing most of your traveling within one country, consider one of the many European country passes available.

A less expensive, if less scenic, option may be to travel on one of the discount airlines. This is probably your best option if you want to see several cities but are short on time. To see how your options stack up, ask FriendsTravel which is best suited for YOUR time and itinerary– By Plane or By Train?

For those who can’t bear the thought of adhering to any sort of schedule, renting a car is a great option.

Be aware that there are several considerations beyond what side of the road you’ll be driving. You might need an International Driving Permit, which you’ll have to secure before you leave home. Keep in mind that European rental cars are often smaller then their American counterparts — a subcompact here is probably significantly larger than what you’ll get in Europe. Friends Travel has a complete list of European rental car companies to help you get started.

8. Get excited.
You’ve decided on your destination, booked your plane tickets and made hotel reservations. What’s left? Now is the time to do more research — find that off-the-beaten-path leather shop in Milan or a cooking class in Provence — and get excited for your trip. And since even seasoned independent travelers need a good old-fashioned guidebook to help them along the way, we’ve chosen some of the best and will advise you.

9. Figure out the money.
It has long been accepted that using your credit card or ATM card abroad would yield the best exchange rate for travelers. However, there has been a recent surge in the number of banks and credit card companies that have quietly added transaction and currency conversion fees for purchases made overseas. Making a call to your credit card company before you leave home is the best way to avoid a huge headache later — like when your monthly statements arrives and you owe several hundred dollars more than you anticipated. When you arrive at your destination, you want to make sure you get the best exchange rate, Friends Travel will cover this topic for tips.

10. Tie up the loose ends.
Don’t forget to stop your mail and call the pet sitter! Friends Travel will help outline the steps you need to take before you leave the house to ensure a stress-free trip in Make Your Next Trip a Breeze Before You Leave the House. When it comes time to pack, consult our interactive packing checklist and be sure your carry-on complies with the latest airport security rules.

EUROPE@FriendsTravel.com 24/7/365  We have been to every Eastern and Western European country, most several times, many times for many of them!

LOCH NESS LODGE Inverness Scotland Friends Travel 90048 L A Beverly Hills West Hollywood

Filed under: Uncategorized — europewithfriendstravel @ 8:35 pm
LOCH NESS LODGE, Inverness, Scotland

We admit it, we believe in the good old fashioned urban myths…from Yetis to spirits to of course, Nessie. In fact, we proudly admit we’ve spent hours upon hours gazing over Loch Ness in the hopes of catching a glimpse (no comment on the outcome but there’s always hope). CASTLEMARTYR Cork Ireland Friends Travel LLP 90048 L A Beverly Hills West Hollywood

CASTLEMARTYR- Cork, Ireland

There’s something about spending a holiday in a manor house, especially whilst in Ireland. It always carries with it a regal air of grandeur, and Castlemartyr is one of the finest examples of the magnificence from centures past. Naturally, it’s got everything you would come to expect of such an estate- luxurious rooms and suites fit for the most discerning of guests, carefully designed menus using local fresh ingredients at it’s restaurant, rolling emerald grounds that seem endless, and 24,000 square feet of pampering bliss within their Spa. However, what we find most charming are the simpler things, the opportunities to partake in traditional activities from long ago that make you really feel as though you’ve taken a true step back in time. Archery, fly casting, skeet shooting, Vane and Quiver, or even Nock to name a few (relax, we didn’tknow what Nock was either but that’s the fun of it all!). Or, perhaps even embark on a walk wtih the 2 resident Irish Setters, apropriately named Earl & Countess of course, through the trails surrounding the property. There’s even a telescope for gazing at the celesital skies. It’s a most peaceful retreat and well worth a stop for a few nights’ rest when traveling through the countryside.

CA’ SAGREDO  HOTEL- Venice, Italy

cIn a city as splendid and divinely romantic as Venice, staying in just a hotel doesn’t seem right. Taking up temporary residence in a PALACE, well…that sounds more appropriate and we must confess the Ca’ Sagredo Hotel’s seductive spirit has won us over. This former regal residence is a 15th century Palazzo set on the Grand Canal, resplendent with works ofa art from the most famous Venetian painters of centuries past, carefully restored to it’s natural noble state which somehow mixes effortlessly with the bold modern touches of luxury. Each of the 42 magnificent rooms maintain the feel of ancient Venetian splendor and offer possibly the most striking views of the shimmering water below, yet all feature their own unique feel. Venice is all about over-indulgence- the art, the culture, the food, and the passion for life and this stunning property truly embodies this spirit. To wind down the day in Venice, losing yourself in the most amazing sunsets whilst sipping a Bellini pretty much ranks up there as one of the most beautiful feelings in life, and there’s no better spot for this than the Ca’ Sagredo.

Passau’s Italian-baroque buildings, erected after the big fire of 1662, match the historic center with its winding little streets and narrow alleyways, which lead us back to St. Stephan’s for an organ concert. DAY 3: Passau
Featured Excursion: Walking tour and organ concert

Coach departure from ship in Passau, accompanied by local guide, cross Danube, drive through scenic Bavarian Forest (National Park) and historic trade route for salt and glass ‘Golden Trail’ arrive at Tittling, Dreiburgensee at Museumsdorf Bayerischer Wald (outdoor Bavarian Heritage Village).
Situated at the confluence of three rivers, Passau’s wealth through trade is reflected in the medieval merchant’s houses that we pass when walking to the baroque St. Stephan’s Cathedral, home to Europe’s largest pipe organ. Passau’s Italian-baroque buildings, erected after the big fire of 1662, match the historic center with its winding little streets and narrow alleyways, which lead us back to St. Stephan’s for an organ concert. (BB, L, Captain’s Welcome Dinner)

Today’s adventure will take you out of Linz—through the region known to many as the “smile on the face of Austria.” Upon arrival in Salzburg, the “city of salt,” you’ll enjoy a walking tour of Old Town. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its well-preserved medieval town core and for its musical heritage. See the Mirabellgarten, once featured in the well-beloved film The Sound of Music. In the afternoon, you’ll cruise to the tiny baroque village of Dürnstein, which seems lost in time.
