The Venetian cuisine, especially that in the city, is full of traditional dishes that are mostly made using all types of fish and vegetables, with only one limit: the seasons.
The cicchetti, the pasta dishes, the risotto – risi e bisi (the doges loved to eat that on St. Marco Day – and I grew up in Vienna eating that at my family’s table), fish, seafood and meat dishes – and of course all these wonderful dishes must be accompanied by Venetian wines: Prosecco di Conegliano,Valpolicella, Bianco di Custoza and Amarone. |

For the first time, in 2010 Herzerl Tours is adding a great culinary experience in Venice, the jewel of the Veneto region in Northern Italy. Venice is famous for its elegant cuisine going back hundreds of years to the Doges; however showing an influence steming from its French occupation (Napoleon) and afterwards by the Austria monarchy – in the 18th century. On this tour participants will have a chance to immerse themselves in the Venetian cuisine through hands-on cooking classes; accompany a chef in going to the famous local fish market (this alone is worth the trip); attend a lecture at Harry’s Dolci – the new venture of famous Harry’s Bar; sightseeing, visiting churches and palaces; eating in some of the better known Venetian restaurants; and the piece de resistance a ride in a gondola! |
